Bespoke Glass Tiles
Please note: Tiles are not currently available, commissions will be accepted again in spring 2009.
The following images are samples, to give you an idea of some of the possibilities available. The base glass is a high-end handmade, handrolled sheet glass imported from Portland, Oregon. It is created especially for kilnwork. Each tile is a minimum of two layers, each piece is hand-cut and assembled. The finished tiles are delivered with a mesh backing and faced with Tile Tape™ to protect them during installation.
Image quality - especially with glass - is compromised on computer screens. Please make an appointment to view the actual sample boards.
Planning tips:
1. Because the glass is handmade, there may be slight variations in colour from batch to batch. If colour variations is an issue and the order is sizeable, it is possible to specify that the factory select batch-specific sheets.
2. Tiles must be selected and samples produced before choosing the other colours for countertops, walls, etc. It is impossible to re-colour the glass to match other elements, ie stone or wood.
3. Turn-around time: generally 2-6 weeks, depending on glass colour and design and other orders.
4. Sizing: 2" and up. Some design effects that are created by reactives in the glass are not reproduceable in sizes larger than 4". This is due to how layers of glass react to each other in the kiln.
5. Transparent tiles are also available. These are faced with Tile Tape™ only and do not have a mesh backing.
